About the 3 wise men who visited the baby jesus in the stable?
Dont you think these 3 men must have traveled for months or even years from their countries through rugged terrain in order to reach Bethlehem?
Which means that jesus would have been a toddler when the Magi met him right?
Could my understanding of the story make sense?
Yes. That’s why Herod ordered male children up to 2 years old to be killed
Also, there is no scriptural evidence that there were 3. Just because there were 3 gifts doesn’t automatically mean that there were 3 Magi
Matthew 2: 2 After Jesus had been born in Beth′lehem of Jude′a in the days of Herod the king, look! astrologers from eastern parts came to Jerusalem

It takes 4 months to travel such a huge distance……..Jupiter and Regulus was that "Star"
The bible does not tell us that the star was bright…….so nobody except Astronomers noticed it.

Its been estimated as short as 6 weeks, and as long as 2 years. Probably more towards two years.

makes sense to me. The magi didn’t visit the stable, but the house of Mary and Joseph

It definitely wouldn’t have been an easy or quick journey. They were Magi, mystics/astrologers of the Persian Empire. Bethlehem is near Jerusalem, and there’s well over 1,000 kilometers distance (as the crow flies) between Jerusalem and the Persian Capital, Persepolis.

There were 3 gifts. We do not know how many Magi there were.
You are speculating about things which are not told about.
Herod the Great called the wise men to himself to find the "young child Jesus" ( Mat 2:7-8) When they arrived, Jesus was already in a house. He was a toddler.
It was the shepherds that saw Jesus in the manger. (luke 2:15…)

Matthew 2:16
When Herod realised that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were TWO years old and under, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TIME HE HAD LEARNED FROM THE MAGI.
Matthew 2
11 On coming to the HOUSE, they saw the CHILD with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.
Luke 2:7
She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the INN.
INN (Greek) kataluma; properly a dissolution (breaking up of a journey), that is, (by implication) a lodging place:- guestchamber, inn. – Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries
It is unlikely that Jesus was born in a stable. The house of the time was a large single room with a raised area for the family and a lowered area for the animals in winter. If they needed more room they would build a guestchamber on the roof.
2 Kings 4:10
Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him (Elisha). Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.
The animals had shelter in winter and also acted as a source of warmth for the family. There would be one or more mangers for their feed, but as flocks were still in the fields, the manger/s would not have been used since the previous winter.
There is nothing in the bible to suggest that Jesus was born in a stable at the back on an inn. Most, if not all, houses would have had mangers for their animals.
Luke 2
1 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
3 And everyone went to his own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
Joseph would have had family members still living in Bethlehem. People who had left town and come back to register would have stayed in their extended families’ homes. But there was only so much room to spare so when Mary gave birth…
Luke 2:7
She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the guestchamber (on the roof – because it was full of other family members).
God chose the carpenter, Joseph to be stepfather to Jesus. Joseph was a responsible man who would care for his family and not arrive willy-nilly in Bethlehem without making plans for their stay.
