Respighi – The Adoration of the Magi – Three Botticelli Pictures (2/3)

Friday, September 11th, 2009

This is the 2nd of 3 pieces, the triptych known as “Three Botticelli Paintings” by the far too underappreciated Italian turn-of-the-century composer Ottorino Respighi.

The 3 pieces are all based on paintings by the Renassaince painter Sandro Botticelli. My personal favorite piece of Respighi’s from this composition is “The Birth of Venus”. But all are outstanding and display Respighi’s gift for combining the sounds of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, which he studied endlessly.

The piece is performed by the Philharmonia of London and conducted by Geoffrey Simon.

Enjoy!

CHRIST IN EGYPT
http://www.stellarhousepublishing.com/christinegypt.html

This video explains the Three Kings motif in the Egyptian mythos, as well as briefly covering other parallels with Christianity. Primary source evidence is provided in support of this contention.

See ‘Christ in Egypt’ for a more in depth analysis.

MERRY CHRISTMAS RISA!

So… obviously this is my Christmas video to Risa.

The basic concept is what’s stated in the beginning of the video. I used clips of Ten sparingly until the end, because I wanted a slight emphasis on how Nine for Rose SO MUCH (and vice versa), but I ended largely with Ten to show how those feeling continued through the regeneration.

Song: “Twist of the Magi” by Rascal Flatts and Shedaisy

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!!!

Anyway. All clips belong to the BBC and were used for entertainment purposes only. The song belongs to Rascal Flatts and Shedaisy, and again, was used for entertainment purposes only. No profit was made from their use.

The White Stripes – The Reading of the Story of the Magi

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

#2 from the “Merry Christmas… From The White Stripes” single.

Meg: o, and season’s greetings from The White Stripes. This is Meg White, and in the spirit of the
season, Jack is going to read you a passage from the Gospel of Matthew.

Jack: Thanks, Meg.

(2.1) Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, Magi came from the East
to Jerusalem, saying,

(2.2) “Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and have come to
worship him.”

(2.3) But when king Herod heard this, he was troubled, and so was all Jerusalem with him;

(2.4) and gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the
Christ was to be born.

(2.5) And they said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet:

(2.7) Then Herod summoned the Magi secretly and carefully ascertained from them the time when the star had
appeared to them;

(2.8) and sending them to Bethlehem, he said, “Go and make careful inquiry concerning the child, and when you
have found him bring me word, that I too may go and worship him.”

(2.9) Now they having heard the king went their way; and behold, the star that they had seen in the East went
before them, until it came and stood over the place where the child was.

(2.10) And when they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly;

(2.11) and entering the house they found the child with Mary his mother, and falling down, they worshiped him.
Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

(2.12) And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back to their own country by another way.

(2.16) Then Herod, seeing that he had been tricked by the Magi, was exceedingly angry, and he sent and
slew all the boys in Bethlehem and all its neighborhood who were two years old or under, according
to the time that he had carefully ascertained from the Magi.

That was the story of the three wise men’s visit to Christ. And Meg and I think that it’s an important part
of the story of Christmas, and we wanted to share it with you.

March of the Magi

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

On July 27th 2009, approximately 200 players logged on Magus characters into Warhammer Online’s Inevitable City, in response to the wild rollercoaster that Mythic have put the community on since the game launched. However, Mythic are no worse or better than any other MMO provider out there. What is needed is a message to all MMO providers about how they approach the life cycle of an online game.

At time of writing, the current patch 1.3.0b is a good example of how to get things very badly wrong but it is just the latest in a long line of inept patches that indicate Mythic aren’t entirely sure what to do and are scrabbling around in the dark.

Voodoo Taboo by the Magi

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Winner, much to our astonishment, of the “2 Weeks 2 Make It” audience vote prize. As the title suggests, for the contest you get teamed up with a randomly selected band, and a fortnight later you hand in your video. You could tell the recession had hit hard, as the filmmakers of Sheffield had obviously had too much time on their hands. Videos were of a very high standard and frankly I think we were in the middle ranking of a very strong field. I think the fact that the band brought their girlfriends, and I put the bands name prominently in the video were highly instrumental in landing us the votes. I put together a team of people I had never worked with before, and I have to say we all got on pretty well.
