The Orgin of the Rottweiler
The exact origin of the Rottweiler is not known. They are definitely one of the older herding dog breeds. They are also used for protection purposes. The history of the Rottweiler dates all the way back to the Roman Empire. Rottweilers were used to herd cattle and pulled meat. It is believed that the Rottweiler originated from Roman droving dogs and is a part of the Molosser canine family. At this point in history, the Rottweilers main purpose was to herd and protect cattle and was known as Roman cattle dogs. When the railroad became the main form of transportation in the 19th century, Rottweilers were no longer used to travel with cattle anymore.
