In the bible it says that the three wise men gave baby jesus myrrh, what is myrrh?
Those aren’t the actuall words it says bu t i was just wondering what myrrh was.
Thank you to all that have awnsered my question, I have a history quiz tomorrow and I’ve been trying to study all day
It is an aromatic gum resin that exudes from certain small trees of Arabia and eastern Africa, used as incense, perfume, and in medicine.

I’m not sure if it actually says that, but I think it was a very expensive ointment that was actually used for embalming purposes.

Frankenscense and myrrh are fragrant saps. Basically they were super expensive incense, which at the time was a huge luxury. It’d be like presenting a baby today with diamonds and real estate.

I’d have to look it back up but I think it’s an oil taken from a tree. But the Bible doesn’t say three wise men. We assume there were three because it mentions three gifts.

Myrrh is a resinous gum that is often used as an incense. It was often used in preparing the dead for burial at the time.
In the gospel account of the Crucifiction, Jesus was given gall mixed with myrrh to drink while he was on the cross…..

Actually the bible says "some" wise men. Just looked it up, 10 minutes ago in four different translations but enough splitting hairs…(Matt. 2:1)
Myrrh is used during burial and was given as the symbol of sacrifice that He (Jesus) would make.
Gold was given because Jesus is the King of Kings. Frankincense because He (Jesus) is the Priest above all Priests.
Hope that helps.

Myrrh is the dried sap from a tree grown in eastern Africa. It was (and is) used in perfumes and incenses. In the time of Jesus, it was worth more than its own weight in gold!
Mary could have used the myrrh as a medicine also, to help her heal up postpartum (after delivery).
Since myrrh comes from an area difficult to reach, and is hard to harvest (the plant is very thorny), a large quantity of myrrh would have made a very expensive gift!
