What happened to the gold, frankincense & myrrh?
the three wise men (Magi) gave to Jesus after his birth. Much is made of these three gifts in the bible, but there is no mention in the bible as to what happened to them. We can all make an assumption, but could it be he never actually received any.
Much is not made of those three gifts they get barely a sentence in one of the gospels and why should the reader care?
The point that was being made was that the pagan wise men recognised Jesus as a King hence the gold, a priest hence the Frankincense and a sacrifice, hence the Myrrh. Why would the gospel writers or readers care what happened to the gifts afterwards?
Of course there is the possibility the whole thing could be made up that is why the religion is calling upon you to make your own mind up and choose whether you believe it or not.

It could be that if these wise people could afford such a long trip, – that the could afford to give gifts to the new king.
And it’s probably that Joseph and Mary sold them for the long stay in Egypt.

I think I heard that Donald Trump has it all in a safe somewhere…..no but seriously the frankencense and myrrh I’m sure were over time just ritually used up and the gold (it was never mentioned that is was a Ton or anything)was probably similarily to today invested, bartered, traded or pawned for needed items ,food, shelter, travel,a new donkey ….or maybe a family heirloom…who knows.

It was customary to give a gift of wealth to a king a birth. The Magi were wealthy Astrologers from the East [Persia], who were reading the stars. There actually were more than just the 3 of them. The gifts were real alright. As what happened to them, remember that the family had to flee to Egypt to get away from Herod, as he was having all the babies from age zero on up to 2 years of age butchered to prevent Christ from grabbing his throne as king over Judah [Jews]. It is very probable that the family lived on the $ from the value of the gifts from the Magi, in Egypt. Again; read the entire story to piece together all the pertinent facts before jumping to conclusions. Use context.

In the Greek version of Matthew, the gold, frankincense and myrrh were "set before" him. It’s only through the Latin Vulgate and later translations that these became gifts.
One tradition is that the Magi were Zoroastrian Priest-Kings. There were portents in astrology that had led them to Bethlehem for an important birth. The gold, frankincense and myrrh were for divination: if he had taken the gold it would suggest he was a king (or a banker), frankincense indicated a priest and myrrh a physician. Jesus took all three.
