what is the process that causes a star to begin producing vast amounts of energy called?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

The process through which a star produces its energy would be called nuclear fusion. Our sun, for example, fuses hydrogen into helium. So it goes for most stars. Really massive ones can make heavier elements at their cores, though. But most of the energy always comes from hydrogen into helium.

What is the meaning of the Star of David! Need help for my Homework Project!?

I need the answer Urgent !! Its for my Homework Project due in for tomorroww. PLease Help

Here are some symbolic meanongs.

There are many ideas about the symbolic meaning of the Star of David. Some Kabbalists thought that the six points represented God’s absolute rule over the universe in all six directions: north, south, east, west, up and down. They also believed that the triangles represented humanity’s dual nature – good and evil – and that the star could be used as protection against evil spirits.

The structure of the star, with two overlapping triangles, has also been thought to represent the relationship between God and the Jewish people. The star that points up symbolizes God and the star that points down represents us here on earth. Yet others have noticed that there are twelve sides on the triangle, perhaps representing the Twelve Tribes.

The symbol’s association with King David comes mostly from Jewish legend. For instance, there is a midrash which says that when David was a teen he fought the enemy King Nimrod. David’s shield was composed of two interlocking triangles attached to the back of a round shield and at one point the battle became so intense that that the two triangles were fused together. David won the battle and the two triangles were henceforth known as the Shield of David. This story, of course, is just one of many!

How does the mass of the elements that form inside of a star change, based on the stage in its life cycle?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

In its early life the star fuses hydrogen into helium. At a later stage, it might fuse helium into a few other small atoms. If it becomes a supernova, it will fuse things into much heavier elements.

Who will be the next big star that we’ve never heard of yet?

Wanted to ask the entire Yahoo collective here. Who will be the next big pop star that we’ve never heard of yet?

Well obviously we’ll have to wait to hear of him/her first.

Do you ever star a resolved question? What is your thought process for giving stars?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

A star seems to show so much respect, what do you consider when you give one? Is it just a matter of "this has never been asked?" or something more? If its a question about stars, like this one, does that factor into consideration?

Do you have a limited amount of stars? Or are they free for the giving?

So what are your general thoughts about the star-giving process?

Interesting question (don’t listen to the grouches).

Although stars don’t really mean anything and the points are just for the fun of it – I do think that people mostly star questions they want to be sure to be able to find again – especially if they aren’t going to answer the question. Starred questions show up on their own tab on your profile page. (there may be a limit – but I don’t use them enough to run out)

I star questions for two reasons:
— to find them easily if they are interesting and well stated and I’m not going to answer them AND
—if they are really good questions, well thought out and quite thought-provoking and I am going to answer them.

Of course – I occasionally give a star just for the fun of it for really funny questions. Hummm – guess that makes three reasons. Enjoy – and just for fun – here’s your star!
