Is every day Christmas for you?

What of these six gifts?
Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh.
Love, Joy and Peace.

The latter three gifts canot be purchased at stores, received from humans or found in science, philosophy and religion. They are the very gifts and person of God in Christ Jesus.

May you have a holiday filled with as much love, joy and peace as your understanding will allow. Should we wish anything less for others than what God has given to us?

In heaven every day will be christmas. It is such a glorious thought. And Jesus will stroll the grounds and wish everyone a very merry christmas.
Thoughout all eternity every day will be christmas. I can’t wait.
Every morning the kids will open presents. Isn’t God great!

can someone rephrase this?

A major reason given for its enduring appeal is its affirmation of unselfish love. Such love, the story and its title suggest, is like the gifts given by the wise men, called magi, who brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the newborn Jesus

Was this the basis of Christianity or is this all just made up?

The vestiges of pagan religion in Christian symbology are undeniable. Egyptian sun disks became the halos of Catholic saints. Pictograms of Isis nursing her miraculously conceived son Horus became the blueprint for our modern images of the Virgin Mary nursing Baby Jesus. And virtually all the elements of the Catholic ritual – the miter, the altar, the doxology, and communion, the act of "God-eating" – were taken directly from earlier pagan mystery religions."

"Nothing in Christianity is original. The pre-Christian God Mithras – called the Son of God and the Light of the World – was born on December 25, died, was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. By the way, December 25 is also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus. The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Even Christianity’s weekly holy day was stolen from the pagans."

LinnE, if you check the historical records, the life of Jesus is based on the life of a Jewish Rabbi named Appolonius Of Judea. He was crucified for teaching something other than the "proper" teachings in the synagogue. The sermon on the mount and the wedding feast at Cana were right out of his life.

Is any idea in Christianity original?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

The pre-Christian God Mithras – called the Son of God and the Light of the World – was born on December 25, died, was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days.

December 25 is also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus.

The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Christianity’s weekly holy day was stolen from the pagans.

The vestiges of pagan religion in Christian symbology are undeniable:
Egyptian sun disks became the halos of Catholic saints.
Pictograms of Isis nursing her miraculously conceived son Horus became the blueprint for our modern images of the Virgin Mary nursing Baby Jesus.
Virtually all the elements of the Catholic ritual – the miter, the altar, the doxology, and communion, the act of "God-eating" – were taken directly from earlier pagan mystery religions."

christianity is almost 2000 years old, that doesn’t exactly count as new. What point did you think you were making in not answering the question?
LOVER OF GOD.
I did use facts, I was hoping to get an intelligent creative answer from a Christian. Some of the ideas of Judaism came from the Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians and the "Canaanites". Christianity originally was a new version of Judaism, dropping the old laws, and that is when it brought in the other elements from existing pagan religions that I mentioned. I am still waiting for you to answer the question, and to stop playing "dodge the question and insult the asker".
I can’t use "better facts" I know you wish there were some. I can only use the facts that exist. I am asking you to explain them.
GODSHANDMAIDEN
No, why don’t you answer my question with an answer.

Do these pre-date the old testament????????
I did not mean to insult—we are an offshoot of Judaism in that the prophecies of the Jews point to the coming of Christ in many scriptures especially in Isaiah "Unto us a son is given unto us a child is born and his name shall be called many names….Mighty God, Everlasting FAther." I did not mean any offense, so I apologize you took my statement that way.

The real root of Christianity. Your sources come from canaanite, and midianite cultures which are mentioned in the old testament. Use better facts ok.

Is anything in Christianity original to it?

Or made up as an amalgam of pagan religions past?

The pre-Christian God Mithras – called the Son of God and the Light of the World – was born on December 25, died, was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. By the way, December 25 is also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus. The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Even Christianity’s weekly holy day was stolen from the pagans!

Do a google search for "Mithraism" and read for yourself…. question things my friends….

Nothing is original. I think that the man Jesus did live. I think that he may have even been a prophet. However, none of the hell and sin crap in the bible ever came out of his mouth. In my opinion, of course.

I need to know this answer that has been bothering me?

What happened to the Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh that the three wise men were bringing as gifts
Andymcj 84 (atheist)
All very good, but I need to know where it went!
Osborne_pkg
Very good reply but I need to know what happened to it all. It may be no one can answer, but there may be someone out there who knows, there usually is.
For those that posted stupid comments I’m sorry if the question was too ifficult, but thank you for your contribution.

I’ve never thought of that. Very good question indeed.

Was Christianity stolen from pagan rituals?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

The "God" and the "Jesus" that Christians worship today are actually amalgams formed out of ancient pagan gods. The idea of a "virgin birth", "burial in a rock tomb", "resurrection after 3 days" and "eating of body and drinking of blood" had nothing to do with Jesus. All of the rituals in Christianity are completely man-made. Christianity is a snow ball that rolled over a dozen pagan religions. As the snowball grew, it freely attached pagan rituals in order to be more palatable to converts. You can find accounts like these in popular literature:

"The vestiges of pagan religion in Christian symbology are undeniable.

I would like to know what you think -Can you explain why this is not true?
Yeah it is pretty boring-but I’m at the end of my day at work and have like 40 minutes to kill and I’m soooo bored-
To bc christianity and catholocism are from the same belief

as a matter of fact yes they did transfer a lot of ideas from pagan to christianity to convert the pagans, for the simple fact that it made it easier for them to do just that. and not only the ideas you pointed out but what about the christmas tree it was a pagan idea, since when do pine trees grow so abundantly in the middle eastern area. the only thing that was original was the fact you could say that you are sorry and pray for forgiveness and be abstaind for punishment.

The wise men and gifts they brought Jesus?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

In Matthew 2:11 the wise men bring gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to baby Jesus. I know what Gold and Frankincense are, but what is Myrrh?
There are some really great answers here, thanks everyone for your information – and the link.

Bond, Cat Bond, I come to R&S regularly. I see trolls regularly. I even find some of their comments funny. Yours isn’t. Merry Christmas.

I am glad you asked this question and included a quote. Myrrh is a resin used in incense and perfume. It smells great. I like this quote because there is a misconception that there were 3 wise men. The Bible does not say there were 3 wise men, only that they had three types of gifts.
