that God decided sacrifice the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. so that your fellow Christians would stop using the bible to justify the mistreatment of African-Americans?
Isn’t it great that he was willing to sacrifice another of his children so that the hateful bigots who didn’t believe that all people were equal would get to take a day off from work because their kid’s schools are closed?
Isn’t it wonderful that God, in all his glorious omniscience, waited until 1968 to teach his "Chrisitan Nation" that doing unto others as you would have done unto you applies to EVERYONE?
I mean, he could have just had Jesus teach everyone that, but he saved some of the glory for others. Isn’t God such a swell guy?
Trooper, I’m sinless. I was born that way. Jesus may have died for YOUR sins, but he couldn’t have died for mine (you see, I wasn’t alive back then, so I can’t be blamed for his death in any way shape or form).

Somehow, I don’t believe you. If you are, indeed, Black, at the very least you should have enough respect for yourself to capitalize it, as you would capitalize "Christian" or "Mexican" or "Canadian" or "Chinese." Don’t try to reprimand me for my use of Dr. King, I AM his dream. If you learn to respect yourself, you will be too.
Jeff S, yeah, it sucks when you have to work anyway, but once your kids are school aged you’ll either have a better job or at the very least, a valid excuse not to go to work that day.
To serve and protect: the people of which you speak, whom you say have had their day before your lord, those are our SENATORS, Congressmen, Governors, bosses, and more. Those people have NOT all died off.
I’m not saying that we haven’t come a long way, I AM saying as much as you Christians like to say that Jesus was the answer to everything, it wasn’t until Dr. King’s death in 1968 that America decided to start thinking seriously about treating all of it’s residents equally. Today, it still hasn’t completely made up it’s mind about that, but it does give the appearance by placating the masses with a public holiday. For some, that’s a whole lot better than nothing. For others, it’s simply a start.
I wish i got it off. This is a lot more celebrate-worthy than Christmas in my book.
